This geocache is hidden on the hills on Tórshavn's south west side, and perfect for geocachers interested in a short hike in the Faroese wilderness. On your way to the geocache - and back - you can enjoy the magnificent view over Tórshavn. The geocache is named after the youngest member of FaroeTeam Rannvá and is the first geocache placed by FaroeTeam.
It’s a 40 minutes hike uphill from the nearest road in Argir. A good place to start is from the kindergarten on Glyvursvegur, Argir (N 61.59,562 - V 6.46,513) where you can park and where you'll find a gate through the fence. If you add 20 minutes of search + logging and a 20 minutes break at the nearby Kongavarðar viewpoint and then 40 minutes to return, you'll need around two hours for the full adventure :-)
‘Kongavarðar’ are three tall stone cairns on top of a hill overlooking Tórshavn and its vicinities. The Kongavarðar cairns are clearly visible from Tórshavn, and reaching them renders you with the most beautiful view of the town and the island of Nólsoy. The cairns' story dates back to 1874 when the Danish King paid his first visit to the Faroe Islands. In order to be the first ones to see the King's ship aproach Tórshavn - before it could be seen from from the town's harbour fort - a few curious locals from Tórshavn ascended the hill. However, their eagerness left them waiting for the ship longer than expected, so to pass time whilst waiting for the King's ship to appear on the horizon, they laid the threetall stone cairns.
