Stanton: Beauty and the Beast 5 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

kerrfamilySBD: I collected this series in today. When it was first set the industrial site around here was in decay and there was a growing sense of nature reclaiming. Now, with HS2 contracts boosting the site's usefulness it is returning to hive of activity and that's not pleasant for cachers. So farewell to my first series of caches. Thanks for visiting.

Geocache Description:

Number 5 in a short circular walk around the fields of Stanton-by-Dale, always with an eye on the relationship of the village with its industrial heritage.

As a walk from the suggested parking place it is about 2 to 2.5 miles. Please if you park elsewhere be considerate of local people and farmers.

After every cache I give a brief description of where to walk next so if you are in reverse order that could confuse you! Hope you enjoy the series.

This is a series of caches around our home village of Stanton-by-Dale. The village has grown up over hundreds of years with the nearby ironworks, and that takes its toll on a place. So this walk shows you both the lovely rural side of Stanton, and the ugly industrial scarring that we have too, hence the cache series name. If you are interested in the industrial heritage of Stanton then the Erewash Museum in Ilkeston has a fantastic room describing the site, and in the village itself (near another cache GC43MDP) there is a small plaque summarising the history. I have also included a link to the Parish Council history pages.

From number 4 the footpath is straight up the field edge on your right to the very corner by a green kissing gate set alongside a redbrick wall. There is no public footpath on a bee-line to Number 6 so please stick to the path until you reach the gate, then you almost double back on yourself to the fifth cache. If you have never visited Stanton-by-Dale and/or you want to extend the walk to get more caches then at the very top corner of the field you can head onto Stanhope Street and fairly quickly add GC2XGC6 and GC22FQ1 to your tick-list. You can also get all the information for my multi GC43MDP (although the final cache is not on your travels today unless you are on a serious walk).
