Let the Clouded Leopards Eye Glow Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

TRACYTOM: It is with the deepest regret that Tom and I have decided to archive this cache. It had a great run of over 8 years now. We were told by Magtangle on 1/8/22 that graffiti was at the cats resting place and that cache was gone. We searched yesterday and the whole site looks so different from when we first placed this cache back in May of 20`13. Even with starting fresh and replacing this lost cache and the cats face we all had made together this all will unfortunately happen again. So instead of being sad of its demise we are remembering the good times of creating this night cache and the excitement of fellow geocachers finding it. Our daughter and Tom and I decided to say goodbye to out clouded leopard and remember the fond memories it has brought us.

Geocache Description:

This cache was inspired by our nine year old daughter.  She loves clouded leopards up at the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma and she also loves night caches.  She asked, "why not have a clouded leopard night cache?"   Tracy and Tom thought, well, we can try.  So, GAME ON! On November 16th, 2019 we did maintenance on this cache. We added 8 more fire tacks and trimmed shrubbery on the way to the cache. We also put more swag in the final container. Is accessible once more! Good luck :)

In a residential neighborhood of Thurston County we heard of an elusive cat that roams at night off the Chehalis Western Trail.   This beautiful cat will show itself most clearly when it feels more comfortable in its surroudings.  Dusk is alright.  But, Night-Time hunting is best!
Being a shy creature they remain hidden in the day.   They live in the canopy of the woods to feel safe.   It makes its home in a reclusive lair in the deep jungles of Lacey.   Approach observantly and remember to look up high for the fire-bright glistening orbs to guide you into its den.
Park at the designated parking coordinates.  The first waypoint takes you to the most accessible part of the journey.   Once on the trail, follow the glints of the shining orbs to reach the final destination.   Each tack is placed 7 to 8 feet above the ground just off the trail.  Look to the left. Each is randomly spaced and one must walk a distance to the next glint.   Head North from the parking lot, past the cats resting spot.   As you walk North you will see a trail with a glinting orb on each side. Once you pass mile 11 1/2 you have entered the cats habitat. Take more steps down the path, head West, but very briefly.   Then look South into the deep thick woods where this creature calls its home.  Follow the randomly spaced glowing orbs very carefully.  This is the area that has salal and some downed tree branches. Keep on the trail until you identify the next glint to guide you slowly in. Don't enter TOO soon as that is far more difficult to access. Be careful! The closer you approach the cat's den the more precarious becomes the terrain.  No BUSHWACKING needed!   This will simplify your journey as you travel South to the cat's hideout.   Stay on the trail as there is no need to divert.
The last leg is the most treacherous for all who desire this smiley.   Approach slowly and carefully spot 2 orbs to enter the thick canopy.  If you take a shortcut of any kind this will mean bushwacking.  We want to preserve the cats environment so please let the orbs guide you.   Once you see the set of 2 orbs you will need to carefully head South and find another set of 2 orbs to secure the correct path of entry.   Then with the assistance of your high beam device locate a triangle face as you are looking South, SouthEast.  This is the location of the clouded leopards den.  The triangle is shaped a two eyes and a whiskered nose. The cats face is looking to the south. Travel to where it is looking to find its hiding spot. r /> Approach this spot and walk around.  You will then spot this feline's hideout.  The cat's treasure is protected by its quad paw.  The leopard will be staring at you as you try and retreive the cache.  The cache is full of cat swag.  Being a cat theme, cat swag is preferred.  Stickers, figurines, toys, magnets, etc.   Enjoy and please keep it kid friendly.
