Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series of caches which brings the finder on a stiff hike around and across Slieve Foy. The length of the circular walk affords the finder breathtaking views of the full expanse of Carlingford, the Lough, the Mournes and the rest of the Cooleys and of Dundalk Bay

Slieve Foy, which towers over the medieval village of Carlingford, is the highest point in the Cooley Mountains and indeed in County Louth.

Assuming you are coming from the village and taking the Barnevave Loop this will be the first you will come to.

The cache is a regular tablock box concealed, Please ensure to replace the cache exactly as found.

I did a series of mountain caches recently where the CO asked "where do we go from here" The same applies here as once you've logged this find you have a decision to make as to where you want to go next.

Please note that dogs are not allowed anywhere on the Cooley Mountains (not even on a lead)

The area below GZ is where Carlingford's annual Leprechaun Hunt takes place. People come from far and wide to take part.
The following is taken from the official website.

To celebrate the protection by the E.U.in 2009 of the last remaining 236 leprechauns in the whole of Ireland, Carlingford Co. Louth holds an annual ceramic Leprechaun Hunt on Sliabh Foy mountain on the first day of summer-time each year. The next hunt is on April 7th 2014
Nobody is allowed to walk on the protected area, which is fenced off to protect the little folk.

100 Ceramic Leprechauns are place in a designated area with rewards under each one.The total value is €2000.

To participate, hunters assemble on the Carlingford Green between 1pm and 2, they purchase hunting licences for €5 and are then led by the pipe band to the mountain gate.

3000 participated last year.Profits go to Childrens Hospital and local organisations.
