Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches to take you on a nice bike ride through parks and natural areas in Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills and Algonquin.  Although the series has Randall Road in the name, the caches are only somewhat near Randall Road.  There’s no need to ride on ANY streets. It can all be done on bike paths and sidewalks with a few street crossings.

There are a total of 23 caches comprised of new caches hidden by myself and caches previously hidden by others.  You can grab a few more just North and South of the end points as well.  Please look at the Bookmark List  to see all the caches along the path.  The list only includes caches where you don’t have to lose sight of your bike or bushwhack with it.  The total round trip is about 14 miles but can be done in separate smaller legs.  You can start your journey where parking is available in at the North Parking waypoint or the South Parking waypoint.  If you want a shorter ride that’s good for smaller kids you can park at either the North Parking waypoint or the Middle Parking waypoint.  This shorter route is only about 4 miles round trip and both starting points have playgrounds, water, restroom facilities and a few benches along the way.

On the full route there are several parks for the kids to play at as well as a water fountain or two, restrooms, wetlands, streams and plenty of birds and animals.  The trip could be a bit longer if you do some of the other caches.  I recommend doing Badger Cachers 1000 at the North end and Woods Creek Area the Finale at the South end.  Both of them are worth just a little extra mileage.  You’ll also be passing right near Mini Falls so you might as well give it a try.

The ride is mostly downhill if you’re heading South and mostly uphill going North.  Although you’ll have an opportunity to grab one of the Randall Road Romp (RRR) series on your way, I’d strongly discourage you from doing any of the other RRR series on your bike other than #14.  Randall Road and the shopping areas around it have very heavy vehicle traffic.

There’s one point where you’ll need to cross Algonquin Road.  If you’re coming from the North, after you finish # 5 you’ll be at Harvest Gate Road.  Take the sidewalk to the right until you come to Algonquin Road and cross at the light.  If you’re coming from the South, once you finish #6, keep going north and follow the path that will lead you East to the light at Algonquin.

Have fun and I’d love to hear about the birds and animals you saw along the way.
