Geocache Description:

Welcome to Bogus Point Park in the Town of Parma, NY.  This tiny park was transferred to the Town of Parma through the National Park Service's Federal Lands to Parks Program. This program helps communities create new parks and recreation areas by transferring surplus Federal land to state and local governments, helping ensure public access to these unique properties.

We spent a weekend here and decided it was the special place we were looking for to hide our first geocache.  I hope you enjoy the visit.

Built in 1896, Braddock Point lighthouse is actually west of Braddock Point
in an area known as Bogus Point. It was known as Bogus Point because it was
a drop off point for counterfeit smugglers coming across Lake Ontario from
Canada. When originally built, the 3.5 order Fresnel lens provided the
brightest light on the entire lake with a range of over 14 miles. The
original staircase was acquired from the Cleveland Lighthouse when it was
demolished in the late 19th Century. The innkeeper quarters is in the style
of the late Victorian era and is considered quite ornate for a government
building.

The howling winds and powerful winter storms took its toll and cracks began
to appear in the magnificent tower after only a few years in service.
Eventually, most of the tower was removed and replaced with a skeleton metal
tower that was used until the early 1950¹s. In the following years, the
property was closed and neglected and was used by hunters as a duck
blind. All the windows were broken and it endured significant water damage
and was considered a haunted house by the local children.

Fortunately, the US government sold the property to private hands and over
the next 50+ years the process of restoration took place. Each of the next
(3) families that have called this home have taken on the tremendous task of
bringing Braddock Point Lighthouse back to life. Today, the innkeeper's
quarters have been completely restored back to the original government blue
prints. The tower, while not completely original, has been rebuilt as a
tribute to the original grand tower with the original staircase in tact.

The light to Braddock Point was turned back on 20 years ago and is now one
of the very few privately owned, fully functioning lighthouses in the United
States. The new owners, Don and Nandy Town have added many enhancements
while remaining true to the original vision of this historical treasure.  As
experienced Bed and Breakfast owners, they have brought their expertise to
Braddock Point. In the summer as well as select times throughout the year,
Braddock Point is open seasonally and on a very limited basis to guests to
come and visit and stay overnight.

Look for the sign indicating the walkway to Bogus Point Park in between #12 and #13 Clearview Ave.  Please stay in the park area only, and please do not trespass onto the surrounding privately owned properties.  Stay safe and watch the kids around the water and the rocks.

Bring your camera!  This area offers a picturesque view of the historic Braddock Point Lighthouse.  Be advised the lighthouse is private property and you are not permitted on its grounds unless you are a guest.  Wandering onto that land without permission can lead to possible federal prosecution.  You do not need to go within the fenced-in lighthouse property to find this cache. vIf you really must visit the lighthouse itself, I would suggest you contact the owners and make arrangements with them.  You don't need to go there to find the cache, however, and all can enjoy the view of the lighthouse and the lake from this pleasant little park.

You're looking for a spice bottle, and don't need to go too close to the water to find this cache.   Stay safe and watch the kids around the water and rocks.  This is a very beautiful location, but can be dangerous as well.  .

Please replace the container exactly as found and re-cover so it doesn't get muggled.

One extra requirement when logging your find online:  Just like a 19th century lighthouse keeper, you must give a weather report of the conditions when you found this cache.  It was sunny and windy and about 50 degrees when we hid it.  Enjoy!

(Note:  the hint is a HUGE spoiler, but you really shouldn't need it at all)

Congrats go out to FTF ttomw!!!! Congrats also to the very close second, Adriienne!!!
