Geocache Description:

This is Yap's second geocache!  This geocache was placed by Queens University of Charlotte students and faculty (along with guest faculty member dianamaps) along the Tamilyog Trail in  Dalipebinaw, Yap!  Hopefully those that find it will enjoy the hike on a traditional stone path and the scenic views along the way.  We wish to thank the Yap Visitors Bureau and Tom Tamangmow for helping us to obtain the necessary permissions to place this cache.

The Trail......

This is Yap's second geocache (with the one at the Wuluu Men's House as the first) located along a tradtional stone path in the Dalipebinaw municipality.  Stone paths are found throughout Yap and historically connect each Village throughout the island.  This stone path is particuarly important as it connects the eastern and western sides of the island.  Recently restored this path provides an opportunity to see protected native forest and a glimpse of Yap's deep history and culture.  Please be respectful as you walk this path.  Although this is a public path and we have been told it is perfectly acceptable for visitors to use it, it is still respectful to ask for permission of the Dalipebinaw Chief (to do this, you may want to contact the Yap Vistor's Bureau in Colonia located near the Yap Pacific Dive Resort).  When walking along the path it is important to be quiet and avoid load behavior.  Additionally, it is customary to carry a piece of green vegetation (collected near by) while walking along stone paths in Yap.  Carrying of something green is a message that you come in peace.

Queens University of Charlotte

This cache was placed and will be maintained by Queens University of Charlotte students and faculty.  Students and faculty from Queens University of Charlotte have been traveling to Yap almost yearly since 2001 as part of the John Belk International Program.  Every year for 3 - 4 weeks in the month of May around 12 students and 2-3 faculty make the long trip to Yap to work on a number of environmental science projects with local agencies including (but not limited to) Land Resources, Marine Resources, Yap Community Action Program (Yap CAP) and the Yap Visitors Bureau.  Most of these projects involve mapping with GPS/GIS technology.  The projects we work on are identified and developed by local agencies.  Our trip objectives are all in-line with our school motto...Non ministrari sed ministrare..."Not to be served, but to serve".....  For more information on Queens University of Charlotte, please visit http://www.queens.edu.  For more information on the Yap Environmental Study Tour (part of the John Belk International Program) please contact Dr. Reed Perkins (perkinsr@queens.edu) or Dr. Greg Pillar (pillarg@queens.edu).

The Cache.......

This cache is a small one (but not micro) located on a scenic point along the trail.....The coordinates take you to within 10 feet of the cache.  While trying to find it you will most certainly enjoy the view.  You will need to bring your own pen and once found please carefully place it back where you found it.

Small note on cache maintenance: There is a local cache guardian. Name and contact info on file with geocaching.com.
