Not much remains of Findo Gask Airfield now, but during, and just after, the Second World War the area was bustling with personnel and training aircraft. A commemorative stone has been erected by the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust.
The airfield was in operation from 1941 to 1945 as a training airfield for British and Polish units. After the war the buildings were used for housing German prisoners of war who worked on the local farms. The brownfield site was cleared in the late 90s to enable the building of Clathymore houses. The control tower (see http://www.abct.org.uk/airfields/findo-gask), which is being converted into an amazing house, and a buried defensive bunker along the old track are the only visible original remnants of the airfield.
