Geocache Description:

Take a trip on the Buffalo River Urban Canoe Trail. Paddle past the concrete giants that represent a large part of Buffalo's history.

With the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 Buffalo found itself situated between two major transportation routes. As the western terminus of the canal and the easter end of Lake Erie the grain grown in the midwest almost all funneled through the Queen City. The need to handle large quantities of grain in an efficient mannor lead Buffalo murchant Joseph Dart to design and build the first elevator in 1842-43.
