Otervika sett fra Oterneset

Otervika ved Sandneshamn er en av mange flotte sandstrender på Kvaløya med fin sand og gode grillplasser. Litt vanskelig tilgjengelighet og dårlige parkeringsforhold gjør at stranda kanskje ikke har så mye besøk som den egentlig fortjener. Før veien mellom Sandneshamn og Brensholmen kom, ble det parkert i Sandneshamn og sti gjennom bergene ovenfor bebyggelsen der førte deg til Oterneset og videre til stranda. Denne muligheten foreligger selvsagt også i dag. Parkering i veikanten på vestsiden av Oterviktunnelen der avstanden ned til stranda er forholdsvis kort anbefales ikke da det er dårlig plass til lovlig parring her. Dessverre ble det ikke lagd parkeringsplasser her da veien ble bygd, visstnok etter motstand både fra grunneier og kulturminnemyndighetene. Det er imidlertid mulig for noen få biler å parkere langs veien etter P-forbudt-skilt rundt 350 meter etter tunnelen der veien er forholdsvis rett. Avstanden til stranda derfra blir rundt 500 meter, og stien ned til stranda starter fra Sandneshamnvegen rundt 40 meter fra tunnelåpninga. Dersom du bare skal til cachen, er det omtrent like langt å gå fra parkeringa i Sandneshamn.

Oppdatering vedrørende parkering: Det er nå lagd fin parkering ved veikrysset i Sandneshamn øst for tunnelen. Herfra følges bygdeveien langs sjøen utover til noen naust, gå der ned til fjæra og videre rundt/delvis sti over Sandneset til Oterneset. Bruk denne parkeringa, og ikke parker i veikanten vest for tunnelen dersom du bare skal til cachen.

Nord for Otervika stikker Oterneset utover, og her ligger cachen. Neset er veldig kalkrikt, så særlig om våren og forsommeren er dette et flott blomstrende område. Tidlig i mai, eller kanskje allerede de siste dagene i april, er det rik blomstring av rødsildre. Mot slutten av mai og utover i juni brer reinrosa sitt hvite teppe utover her flere steder, og også andre blomsterplanter trives på kalkgrunnen her.

Cachen inneholder opprinnelig loggbok, blyant, FTF-sertifikat, noen små bytteting og en TB.

English:

Otervika by Sandneshamn is one of many beautiful sandy beaches at Kvaløya with fine sand and good barbecue places. A little difficult access and poor parking conditions causes that the beach may not have as many visitors as it really deserves. Before the road between Sandneshamn and Brensholmen was built, you parked in Sandneshamn and a path through the rocks above the buildings bbut now most people prefer to park on the west side of Oterviktunnelen where the distance down to the beach is relatively shortrought you to Oterneset and further to the beach. This possibility is of course still there today, but now you find a fine parking lot there and follow the shore and cross Sandneset and then follow a path to Oterneset. Unfortunately it was not made parking west of the tunnel when the road was built, supposedly after resistance from both land owner and cultural heritage authorities. However, it is possible for a few cars to park along the road after passing P-prohibited signs about 350 meters after the tunnel where the road is relatively straight. Distance to the beach there is around 500 meters, and the path down to the beach is starting from Sandneshamnvegen about 40 meters from the tunnel opening. Just for walking to the cache, use the parking lot east of the tunnel, the distance to the cache is about the same as from western side of the tunnel.

Update about parking: Use the new parking lot east of the tunnel. Walk along the road to some boathouses, then follow the shore, cross Sandneset and follow a path to Oterneset.

North of Otervika you find the headland Oterneset, and here lies the cache. Oterneset is very calcareous, so especially in spring and early summer is a great booming area. Early in May, or perhaps already in the last days of April, there is rich flowering of purple saxifrage. Towards the end of May and into June you find lots of the white dryas here, and other flowering plants thrive on chalk ground here too.

The cache contains initially log book, pencil, FTF Certificate, some small trading items and a TB.
