Geocache Description:

This is a typical 5/5 "Psycho Urban" geocache hidden in the regular way. It is in the river, high up on a 1800s train trestle abutment. Recommended equipment includes a boat, climbing gear, (rope, harness, grigri, ascender, nylon webbing, and caribiners) and a slingshot with beanbag and string.

There are some small trees growing out of the top, so watch where you run the rope. Look for a clear spot on the downstream side if you can aim the beanbag through the hovering sycamore nearby. We tried the north end of the pier for the first shot with the beanbag, but it went over a corner and did not look safe. On the second shot we tried to go over the middle. The beanbag went well into the center of the river and nearly struck someone riding by on a wave runner. Pulling on the string caused it to immediately dig into the joint crack of the stones by nearly a foot. On the third try, at Laura's suggestion, we aimed it through a small hole in the foliage of a sycamore on the south end. It hit a few branches, but made it over okay. We set the rope up and attached our gear. By now the tide had gone down a bit and we climbed up on the side facing the river. The river was over 7 feet deep when we started, but now it was only waist level and by the time we left it was only 1 foot deep. It is definitely easier at low tide. I climbed up fairly quickly, but at the top noticed that the rope was suspended in the dead branch of a tree. Pulling myself up on top could possibly snap it, causing a six foot drop or more and possibly slamming myself into the side of the wall. I descended down and we both put our weight on the rope, and pulled. Nothing happened, so I went up again and chanced it. Woohoo!!! The top is smooth and clean without any debris, and I removed the tiny dead tree on that end, but beware as there are hazards still, such as small trees. On top is a nice viewpoint of the river, and perhaps we'll return to have a BBQ up there. It also would be a great place to go camping, but we'll see..

The abutment is currently not accessible from the nearby 525 acre Biles Island. However future plans include pedestrian trails, a nature center, a habitat/ecologic restoration area, a marina, active recreation areas, camping areas, swimming, and boating. Since 1968 it has been used for depositing dredge spoils from the river and was purchased by Falls township recently, but is still off limits. The island takes its name from William Biles, to whom it was conveyed in about 1680 by four local Lenapes; Orecton, Nannacus, Nenemblahocking, and Patelana, for a total of ten pounds.

Inside the cache are two unactivated geocoins for the FTF team (7 wonders mysteries and an American eagle), who are also encouraged to submit a photo for the page. A pic of the team, or just a view of the river would be fine. Access is from a public boat ramp directly on the other side of the river in NJ on Lamberton Road. If you are using a trailer for a larger boat, a permit is required. Do not attempt alone, or if you are unsure about your abilities. Only YOU are responsible for your safety. Be careful, and have fun!
