As written in the fictional story, THE TRIBE OF PEZHEKEE by Alice Otillia Thorson, Minnewaska awaits the long overdue return return of her true love, Waube-Mokwa (The White Bear), from his journey to the east to visit the home of the French monks who live on the Mississippi River. In his absence, she cheerfully takes her place among the women of the village, resolving to make herself a fitting leader of them as Chief White Bear was of the warriors. True to her beloved, day after day, from morning untill evening, she searches the horizon for his return. It is she who keeps the faithful, constant vigil. It is she who waits.
