Geocache Description:

An easy and fun cache for people of all ages. Located in beautiful Ithaca with an ice cream shop right next door. Easily accessible and very kid-friendly!

Rumor has it that in 1892, the first ice cream sundae was created in Ithaca, New York. Now, many cities claim to be the founder of this delicious treat but Ithaca can pinpoint the date so accurately that they have the precise minute of this notorioius treats creation documented (supposedly it was on a "Sunday"). While before 1892, many people had enjoyed ice cream with delicious toppings, it wasn't until someone in Ithaca made a presentation so unique and delicious, it was given a name. The story goes that Chester Platt requested a dish of vanilla ice cream on April 3, 1982, but once given the dish, he decided to add more toppings. Platt felt so much passion towards the vanilla ice cream topped with cherry syrup and a candied cherry that he felt obilgated to give it a name. After much deliberation, a man who had accompanied Platt, John Scott, proclaimed that they should name it after the day it was created- thus, the ice cream sundae was born.
