This series of caches is placed on the North South Trail that runs the length of Rhode Island. It is a 77 mile hiking trail that is clearly marked with a blue blaze and is a wonderful trail to hike. We have started the caches at the southern most point.
This trail runs the entire length of the state from the Atlantic Ocean to the Massachusetts border. The path passes through eight state-owned wildlife management areas (Buck Hill, George Washington, Durfee Hill, Killingly Pond, Nicholas Farm, Arcadia, Carolina and Burlingame) and Burlingame State Park.
At its northern start/end point, it meets Massachusetts' Mid-State Trail in the Douglas State Forest. The Mid-State Trail continues north to New Hampshire.
For more information on the North South trail visit: http://www.rigreenways.org/paths/nst-data.htm
IMPORTANT NOTE: This section of the NST caches #36 until you hit #40 are all on the road. PLEASE USE CAUTION and obey all traffic rules. Continue to follow the BLUE BLAZE / North South trail. At cache #40 you will go back onto a dirt state trail system.
