Geocache Description:

This cache is located a little off of the West Branch French Creek Conservation trail. The trail is a new (2013) addition to the Erie County Recreational Passport for the “Let’s Move Outside” (letsmoveoutside.org) program. The hide should be fairly easy. The terrain is rated at 3 due to the condition of the trail. You may get wet feet and you must have pretty good balance for parts of the trail!

Lowville Fen West Branch French Creek Conservation area: The trail head is accessible from the parking area located on the east side of Route 8, near the village of Lowville, approximately 4 miles north of Wattsburg, PA. From the parking area, a short, paved, handicapped-accessible path leads to a covered pavilion containing tables and grills. The 1.1 mile loop unpaved hiking trail leads north to a series of picturesque beaver ponds. A rough-hewn log boardwalk traverses a wetland located just below a beaver dam. The trail then turns to circle an old Christmas tree plantation, and skirts along the edge of the West Branch French Creek floodplain. Depending on the season, portions of the trail may be quite wet. The conservation area is owned and maintained by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Be sure to bring your camera!

Trail Hours: Open year round from dawn to dusk. The trail is not maintained during the winter months!! Hunting IS allowed. Please use caution during hunting season!

Congrats to Mikeb226 for the FTF! (and thanks for the bag for the "log sheat")
