Eldorado Valley is a Great Basin valley in the Mojave Desert southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada and southwest of Boulder City, Nevada.
We have had our eye on this valley for a few years. We wanted to make a series of caches a little closer to Las Vegas (approximately a 40 minute drive from McCarran Airport). For the most part, any practical vehicle will be able to navigate these desert roads. We used a 2wd Toyota Pickup Truck with no issues and much more clearance than we actually needed. There are a few sandy spots but we avoided any places we thought might give the average city driver any concern. But please keep in mind that desert conditions may change at any time so always use good judgement and stay out of trouble. Speaking of desert conditions, please be sure you are prepared for the environment. Consider sun protection and stay hydrated. Also, be very aware of all the desert dangers ranging from thorns to snakes. If you should need to restock your supplies or need gas, Las Vegas, Boulder City or Searchlight are never too far away.
We designed the trail to have all the caches (pill bottles or film cans) on the right side of the vehicle. If you start at 001 and proceed in numerical order to 500, you will do the trail as intended. However, you are welcome to do it in the best way that works for you. Please bring extra logs and containers. If you come across a cache this is missing, needs replaced, or needs a new log... feel free to replace it as you see fit, we trust you.
It is also worth noting that #500 - Eldorado Depot! has enough space for extra containers and is located where it can be conveniently accessed from the start and end of the trail. So we encourage everyone to pick up spare containers as needed and drop off spare containers for the next cachers who may need some.
Stay on the DESIGNATED ROUTES, do not drive off road... please honor the rules of the area so others can enjoy our trail. Creating new trails or littering will lead to the loss of access into these beautiful areas. Some of the signs at the start of the roads may be a bit confusing but trust us, all the roads we take you on are DESIGNATED ROUTES. If we abuse it, the right of way may be revoked. Respect the wildlife and have fun!
80+% of the caches are in Creosote bushes, the rest are in rock piles.
