Geocache Description:

*** A KAYAK, CANOE OR SMALL BOAT ONLY CACHE ***

Welcome to the Records Pond, Broad Creek and James Branch “Water Trail”

* WT #1 thru #7 are fairly easy to get to with a kayak, canoe or small boat.
* WT #8 thru #17 are best with a single person kayak – see notes on those cache pages
* Be sure to check out the 5/5 bonus cache (GC3YG9P) - If you want, you can sign the cache log while you’re so close and log the find online later on AFTER you complete the challenge

Spend some time exploring one of lower Delaware's hidden treasures.
Explore downstream in Records Pond above the horseshoe dam and upstream through the Cypress maze to the head waters of Broad Creek. Then venture up James Branch into the Ancient Cypress forest with some trees over 500 years old.

WT #8 thru #17 should only be done by experienced paddlers who are up for an adventure…. It will take some effort to get up James Branch but it is well worth the trip. You will be rewarded by seeing some of the largest Bald Cypress trees around.
There is lots of GPSr bounce due to the thick tree cover…see hints and photos if needed

This is an ever changing area and multiple portages may be required to make it all the way to #17. You need to stay alert the whole time as there are also logs and branches just under the surface in places that can catch you off guard.

I’ve added notes with pictures of the GZ to some of the cache pages..
All directions and hints are given as if you’re going for the caches in numerical order as you head UP stream.

For more info on the area check out this Article by Tom Norton written for the Bay Journal (visit link)
You may want to take the time and effort to see the approximately 560 year old “Patriarch” cypress mammoth that measures about 25 feet around and soars to more than 120 feet, with a spread at the top covering more than 60 feet.
WT #17 is only .54 miles from this tree although there are multiple spots that will require portaging in this section.

Caches are log only so BYOP

Happy Hunting
