About Goodmanham
Goodmanham Village has a great claim to fame. It is considered to be the birthplace of Christianity in the north of England. Across the road from this geocache is All Hallows Church. On this site was the pagan High Shrine of Northumbria. In AD 625 the King was Edwin, reigning over land from the Humber through to the Firth of Forth in Scotland. Here at Goodmanham , Edwin was converted to Christianity by the High priest Coifi, who proceeded to destroy the pagan temple on which the church now stands.
