碑文谷ガードは、碑文谷道と東海道線が交差する場所にあります。
この碑文谷道は、江戸時代に江戸の町民が碑文谷にある円融寺に参拝するための道です。品川宿から円融寺までの道もその一つです。
この付近は京浜工業地帯です。
ガードの近くには日本ペイントの発祥の地があります。
日本ペイントでは、明治42（1909）年に建てられた赤レンガ造りの工場を「明治記念館」として保存されています。
予約が必要ですが内部を見学することができます。
