Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanik Bahçesi (NGBB), Ali Nihat Gökyiğit Vakfı’nın (ANG Vakfı) genelde biyolojik çeşitliliğin, özelde bitki çeşitliliğinin hayati önemi, korunması ve tanıtılması amacıyla gerçekleştirdiği toplumsal bir faaliyettir.

Önce yol inşaatı nedeniyle yapısı aşırı derecede bozulmuş toprak ıslah edilmiş; sonra 32 hektarlık park alanına takriben 50.000 ağaç ve çalı dikilmiştir.

Daha sonra amaç değiştirilerek, bir botanik bahçesi olma yolunda çalışmalara başlanarak 2002 yılında halkın ziyaretine açılmış ve 2003 yılında adı Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanik Bahçesi olarak değiştirilmiştir.

İstanbul’un Anadolu yakasında, Atatürk ve Fatih Sultan Mehmet köprülerinden gelen otoyollarla, Anadolu otoyolunun(Ankara) birleştiği kavşakta bulunmaktadır. Bahçe kavşaktaki anayollar ile bağlantı yolları arasındaki adalar üzerinde kuruludur ve sekiz adadan oluşmaktadır. Alan, Karayolları Genel Müdürlüğü ile ANG Vakfı arasındaki bir protokolle 2025 yılına kadar bu hizmete tahsis edilmiştir. NGBB, İstanbul’a %12 oranında yeşil alan sağlamasıyla İstanbullular için bir nefes alma noktası olmasının yanı sıra, bir araştırma, eğitim ve öğretim merkezidir.

İstanbul halkının yararlanacağı, çevre korumada önemi olan, güzel, eğitsel bir bahçe, yeşil bir akciğer oluşturan NGBB’ nin görevi:

• Dünya’daki canlılığın devamının gerçek ve tek garantisi olan bitkilerin önemi ve değeri hakkında toplum bilgisini arttırmak.

• Dünya bitki hayatı ve Türkiye’nin zengin bitki örtüsü hakkında, bilimsel araştırmaları ve eğitimi, iyi belgelenmiş koleksiyonlar oluşturarak teşvik etmek ve bir bitki danışma merkezi oluşturmak

• Dünya’daki biyolojik çeşitliliği, endemik, ender ve tehdit altındaki bitkileri koruyarak desteklemek.

• Ekonomik ve/veya faydalı bitkilerle insanlar arasındaki bağlantı ve ilişkileri araştırmak, sergilemek ve bu konudaki biriktirilmiş kültür mirasını korumak ve yaymak.

• Gittikçe artan bir tehdit oluşturan susuzluğa dayanıklı bitkileri sergilemek ve dünyadaki erozyonla ve çölleşme ile mücadeleye yardım etmek.

Bahçe hafta içi ve hafta sonu sabah 9:30'da açılıp, kış mevsiminde saat 17:00'de kapanır (son giriş 16:00); yaz mevsiminde ise saat 19:30'da kapanır (son giriş 18:30). Giriş ücretsizdir ama bağış yapabilirsiniz.
Ataşehir tarafından girilip park yerine ulaşılır, daha sonra da bir tünelle otoyolun altından geçilip bahçeye varılır. Girişin koordinatları:

Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanic Garden (NGBB) provides a public service, funded by the Ali Nihat Gökyiğit Foundation (ANG Foundation),to preserve plant diversity, promote education and especially through exhibitions to demonstrate the crucial importance of plant diversity. The Garden is located on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, at the intersection of two motorways, one coming from the Ataturk and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges over the Bosphorus and the Anatolia motorway to Ankara. The Botanic Garden is 32 hectares consisting of eight islands of land formed by the motorway intersection and the slip roads. The land is leased from the General Roads Directorate to the ANG Foundation until 2025. In addition to being a research, training and education centre, NGBB has established an attractive amenity area for people living nearby which providesa 12% increase in green area to the city of Istanbul.

The mission of the Botanic Garden is to create a beautiful educational garden, a green lung for the city. Established in the name of the deceased Mrs. Nezahat Gökyiğit with the aim of protecting the environment, the Botanic Garden also provides benefits for the people of Istanbul. NGBB aims to:

• Increase public knowledge related to the importance and value of plants which are the only guarantee for sustaining life on earth.

• Promote scientific research and education relating to plant life worldwide and the rich flora of Turkey by establishing well documented collections and providing a plant information centre.

• Protect and support the biological diversity of the world, and in particular endemic, rare and threatened species.

• Investigate and demonstrate the connections and relationships between economic and/or useful plants for mankind and to preserve and spread the accumulated knowledge about Turkey’s cultural heritage.

• By exhibiting xerophytic and halophytic plants that are drought tolerant and resistant to global warming, thereby contributing towards the struggle against soil erosion and desertification worldwide.

Opening hours: 9.30 am until 5.00 pm (last entry at 4.00 pm) in winter; until 7.30 pm (last entry at 6.30 pm) in summer. The entrance is free, but you can make a donation.
You have to drive in the parking place in Ataşehir and go through a tunnel under the highway to reach the garden. The coordinates for the entrance are: N 40° 59.567 E 29° 06.914
