Easy Cache and Dash! You can park the car and take 10 steps and grab this one! Easy! Good for the kiddos too!
Congrats to Poudrecacher (and Sturgie) for FTF!!!!
The two holes or craters your seeing at this cache were caused by lightning! Yep! ONE bolt of lightning! Well, sorta!
In the very early 1900's, the Laramie-Poudre tunnel was being built. Still used today, you more than likely passed it coming to this location. Only a couple miles away.
It was built to divert water from the Laramie River, over to the Poudre river right through the mountain. One tool they used for this was, of course, dynamite! (Seeing the story yet?)
The workers drilled from both East, and West so they would finish the tunnel faster. 11,000 feet total was needed. The eastern side got Dynamite from Fort Collins Via Stage coach. The western side got theirs from Laramie. Well two stage coaches, traveling from Laramie, were almost to the site with their loads of Dynamite. Then a bolt of lightning struck the first coach, causing a massive explosion and vaporizing everything and everyone, this in turn cause a chain reaction, and blew up the second coach directly behind the first. Vaporizing all that too.
What you are looking at is the two craters, created when 2 full stagecoaches of Dynamite, exploded.
The investors of the tunnel were furious to learn of their loss of the Dynamite (not the loss of 4 men) That they threatened to make the mens families pay for the loss. The east team heard of this and threatened to blow up the tunnel from their end. THis cause the investors to back off and accept the loss.
This is a VERY easy cache! IF you wish for exact directions, Ill add them to the hint. Dont even need a GPS for this one, but take it because there are several caches on this road.
Please watch for muggles as this is a highly traveled road and please try to hide the box a bit better than you found it. This way it wont get Muggled.
