A very easy and short walk around Halsey Pond, featuring a turn-of-the-century castle teahouse as the main feature.
This cache is hidden near an interesting castle-like teahouse. Unlisted on many maps, Halsey Pond Park is a quaint little park owned by the village of Irvington. The Halsey Teahouse in this park used to be a part of the Rochroane mansion estate. Originally constructed for Melchior Beltzhoover in 1905, the main house burned down years ago and the land given away to the church, who then sold most of the estate to a developer. All that's left is the little castle teahouse by Halsey Pond.
The park and pond are quite small, and to walk around the whole thing is a mere half mile on an easy gravel path. Fishing is allowed with the proper license (catch and release only). The best part is being able to walk directly into the upper part of the teahouse and out on the roof terrace overlooking the pond.
Please note that this park has signs to the effect of residents only. The superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the town has stated that as long as you do not partake in any illegal activities (alcohol, off-leash dogs, and illegal fishing being the three biggies) they do not enforce these signs. Please enjoy the park responsibly!
