Geocache Description:

SDSQ = South Dakota Spirit Quest. It is a heading used on many caches in other states that deal with Cemeteries. This cache is placed with utmost respect for the area.

Piedmont Cemetery is located north of the community of Piedmont, in Meade County SD. Piedmont takes its name from a French word meaning "the foot of the mountain," because it lies on the eastern slope of the Black Hills. The area was first inhabited in the mid-1870s. George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment came through this area in August, 1874 on their way to Montana, to an area that would become the Battle of Little Bighorn in June of 1876. Piedmont was founded in 1890 and remained unincorporated for nearly 117 years. It officially became a city August 16, 2007. There are roughly 421 internments at this cemetery dating back to the 1880's, with many civil war era veterans remembered here as well.

You do not have to enter the cemetery grounds to find the cache. If a service is in progress, or if there is someone here maintaining a grave site, please come back at a later time. If you do chose to visit the cemetery, please pay due respect and do not disturb any of the markers or headstones. Follow any and all posted cemetery regulations. Most importantly, do NOT look for this cache after dark.

You are looking for a camo'd bison tube. Bring your own writing stick as there isn't one in the cache. Please return the cache exactly as found, making sure it remains well-hidden. There is a letterbox nearby, but it is not associated with this cache or website.

As with all of our caches, enjoy the area, be safe and have fun.
