Another regular cache along the El Dorado Trail for your enjoyment. Easily accessible from the trail. This is also the home location for our "Lost Duckies". If they appear back in this cache, please do not take. They have many more adventures to take. It's kind of like the Amazing Race, but for Duckies. For "First to Find", there is a mini screwdriver set with 10 Wheat Pennies minted in the 1920's & 1930's. Congratulations to Mtnlavacap for being F2F!
Historically, in 1860, mile markers noting the approximate distance (in miles) from Placerville to Tahoe, were made of wood. Over time, stone markers with the number of miles from Placerville replaced the original wooden ones. This six mile marker has a connection to Col. John Calhoun “Cock-eyed” Johnson. His ranch, known as “Six Mile Ranch” was located in Camino, California. It became an encampment for immigrants, soldiers, and prospectors who came to the area, with as many as 1,000 people camped on the ranch at one time.
