Tarka Trail-Meeth Halt
A great access point to the famous Tarka Trail. From here it is possible to walk or cycle off road as far as Barnstaple, throughout the route there are a series of caches. We have placed a few at this southern end & formed a loop to include sections of the new Devon Wildlife Trust Meeth Quarry nature reserve. Starting from the old railway halt there is a choice of routes for you to select. As the series is not numbered you can find the caches in the order of your choice. The circuit from here along the Tarka Trail, returning via the nature reserve, is approximately 3.5 miles mostly along tracks.
This cache is located on the old railway halt platform, a starting point for a great circular walk or just a “cache & dash” whilst passing on the A386.
There is ample off road parking at the entrance to the Devon Wildlife Trust reserve, close to the old platform but be aware that the gates are locked before dusk. See posted signs for details of closing times. Other users are unaffected by the locked gates.
The line opened in 1925, operated by the Southern Railway until it became part of British Railways in 1948, closing in 1965 as part of the Beeching proposals.
