Geocache Description:

Black taped container hanging out in a berry tree. Watch out, they stain.

The Tiger salamander is the Kansas State amphibian. Cache #1 in a series of 27 highlighting the state symbols of Kansas and Nebraska along State Line Road.

Ambystoma Mavortium, also known commonly as the tiger salamander has been the state amphibian of Kansas since 1993 when the second grade class of OK elementary in Wichita Kansas petitioned the governor and the intial idea for a state amphibian was presented to thier teacher by Timothy Boyd and Kristofer Voorhees-- Information obtained from Wikipedia. The ultimate source of 100% accurate info!

Tiger Salmanaders are normally nocturnal and opportunistic eater, munching on insects slugs and earthworms. Typically the adults are 6-8 inches long, but can grow to be 12 inches long. They are found in south western Canada, all the west to Northern Mexico. So why they are the Kansas state amphibian is beyond me. But enjoy the cache and the string. Thanks for stopping by!
