Geocache Description:

Best parking is in packing/shipping company parking lot. Easy find, should be a park & grab. Hope you stay for longer, though.

This is my first hide, as I've cached all of my hometown, I think it's time to hide some of my own.

This cache is so named due to the location being very large in Solon's history. Here you can see one of the first churches in Solon, currently housing the Solon Historical Society. It was the third building to be built on that site in the center of town. The first church in Solon was organized in 1834, and in 1840, it was decided to be Presbyterian. Through several merges with other denominations of faith, such as the Disciples of Christ, the Presbyterians, and the Community Church of Solon, the Federated Church of Solon was set up across SOM Center Road, and the old church soon became abandoned. However, part of the congregation, in 1951, moved back to the old building, extensively repairing and remodeling it. This congregation, and church, became the Pioneer Memorial Church, and in the mid-fifties, the Pioneer Memorial Presbyterian Church. In 1967 it was decided this congregation would build a new facility on 7 acres of donated land on Solon Road and the congregation moved in 1969, but not before the Solon Historical Society was established in 1968. Pioneer Memorial Church is still a very active church on Solon Road, only about a mile and a half from this cache, and the Solon Historical Society's Museum is open for touring.

Across the street you can see the Solon Arts Center. This building is one of the oldest in Solon, and once served as the City Hall, built in 1899. It served Solon for a very long time, but in 1995, the city's government moved to its new Town Hall, just next door on Bainbridge Road. In 1997 it was decided to preserve and renovate the building to become the Solon Arts Center, which opened in 2002 to host classes and programs in art, dance, theater, and music for the community. It is open throughout the week with a walk-in gallery of art and photos, I highly encourage visiting!

On the third corner, there's Solon's Veterans Memorial Park, a 0.7 acre plot dedicated at 11 o'clock on November 11th, 2010 to Solon's Veterans. The park is beautiful throughout the year, and while I don't endorse night caching, the eagle in the fountain is illuminated brilliantly with LEDs after dusk, and while surrounded by a very suburban/industrial area, the park is very scenic in its small stature. I very much recommend a visit to here, as well.

And then on the fourth corner there's a pharmacy. That's pretty nice I guess. I don't think there's much history there though.
