This is a series of 7 caches dedicated to an Amateur Radio net called The Breakfast Club, “Where old timers are not forgotten, and newcomers are always welcome!” The net meets every morning, 365 days a year, on 80 meters at 3.973 MHz. Check-ins are whenever you turn your radio on, and the net runs from 4 AM to 8 AM Central Time, with a change of net control generally every hour.
It's a great group of hams, and Breakfast Club has been around since January 1, 1958. The only requirement for actual membership is 10 check-ins...and they don't have to be consecutive. The net has members from all over the Midwest, from South Dakota to Tennessee and beyond. The Breakfast Club started as a shoutout to Don McNeill's Breakfast Club, the first and longest-running radio variety show, based in Chicago and broadcast on WGN. Don McNeill was an honorary member of “our” Breakfast Club, something he was pleased to accept.
There is a weekend-long picnic gathering; for the last several years it's been held here in the Hannibal area where we have several members. It's a fun “meet 'n' greet”! This year, 2013, it's being held on the weekend of July 12 – 14.
#3 – It's Golden!
Things aren't always what they seem!
This is a stop along Hwy 61, recently nicknamed The Avenue of the Saints, because it runs from St. Louis MO all the way to St. Paul MN.
