The Dancing Miner Traditional Cache

The cache is a nano, located at the statue of the dancing miner just inside the entrance the the West Craigs housing estate in Blantyre. Parking can be found on the right, just after the cache location, at the nearby convenience store. Please be careful when searching for the cache as this area is muggle and duggle central!

The cache is located at the site of West Craigs' very own dancing miner. The West Craigs development was a collaboration by Bett Home, Kier Homes and Taylor Woodrow and the developers arranged for this statue to be erected to reflect the history of the area. There are many disused mine shafts below both West Craigs and nearby Hillhouse and the entrance to the old Craighead pit was located near the industrial estate at the entrance to West Craigs. There was a lot of controversy when the statue was first erected as many local residents saw the old chap as an affront to the memory of the 207 men killed in the Blantyre mining disaster in 1877, and saw him as figuratively dancing on their graves.  Personally, I think he's rather fetching...!
