Geocache Description:

The name Whitewood was named by the Teton Sioux who camp in the area during there yearly migration. Then in the late 1880's the first train came to the area. The Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad came chugging in to town November 22, 1887. The first city lots were auctioned of on Thanksgiving Day november 24, 1887. The town of Whitewood was incorporated May 15, 1888.12 to 14 trains use to arrive daily because at one time Whitewood was the end of the line. People would travel by stage or horse or even by foot to the other towns until the railroad moved further south and west. Whitewood would boom until that day came.
