Geocache Description:

An old forestfire lookout site long forgotten.

From Quartzville Creek Road at the back of Green Peter Reservoir the shortest route is up Trout Creek Road to Yellowstone Mountain.

When I learned of "OREGON FOREST FIRE LOOKOUT CHALLENGE" "GC15CVW" I knew I would have to hide a cache here. A very short history is available at http://oregonlookouts.weebly.com/linn-county.html . I found this site some 25 years ago while hunting. At that time there was still a visable trail to the top. Now, the only visable remains of that trail are near the top. On the date of placement the only sign that this place has not been completely forgotten is a hole cut through the trees/brush lining the road across from the parking coords. This is a short bushwack and long pant are advised. Though short it is steep. Cross the road and go through the hole in the trees/brush, looking up you can see the rock on top. Make your way straight up toward the north (left) side of the rock. As the brush starts to clear and turn to rock you should be able to see the remains of the old trail. Make your way up this trail, below and around the old stacked rock lookout foundation. The history states the lookout was removed in 1970 but there are still a lot of old floorboards with nails sticking up. That area can be avoided but be careful with dogs and kids. There is a high vertical cliff off the east side. The cache is a medium size pelican box. Please rehide as good or better than you found. Enjoy the view.
