Geocache Description:

Please Note:

1. This is the second cache for Riversdale. We hope to place several more caches in this beautiful town to highlight the rich history and heritage that has been long overlooked.

2. Ground Zero is in a much quieter area in town, however it could at times be a high muggle area due to tourist buses; stealth is crucial.

3. Please replace the cache to exactly where you found it.

A Little Bit About Riversdale:

Riversdale (Afrikaans: Riversdal) is a town located on the N2 highway between Cape Town and George on the Agulhas Coastal Plain of the southern Western Cape province of South Africa. It is an agricultural service orientated town, being a hub for shopping and other services for surrounding farming communities, smaller towns, and coastal resorts, like Witsand and Stilbaai. It is located beneath the imposing Langeberg Mountains to the north, with Sleeping Beauty Mountain overlooking the town.

The town was founded as a church on the farm, Doornkraal, and was subsequently named after Harry Rivers, the then incumbent Civil Commissioner of Swellendam. It was proclaimed a town on 30 August 1838. Riverdale is the seat of the Hessequa Local Municipality. It is also the westernmost point in the Garden Route region.

The Cache:

The cache is located in Long Street / Lang Straat. This is the oldest street in Riversdale and it is situated next to the Vette River. All the houses on the Northern end of the street date back to the mid 1800's. This is a good spot for those interested in taking some photos of beautiful classic architecture.

Congrats Terunkie for a well deserved FTF. Well Done!
