How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Not your usual Multi cache.  This is a challenge cache.  You can only "find" it if you have met the challenge. I advocate a bike or hike approach for the final stage.

You're saying to yourself, what in the world does TUMVELW stand for? Keep your geocaching pants on, you'll soon learn.

TUMVELW stands for Traditional, Unknown, Multi, Virtual, Earthcache, Letterbox Hybrid, and Wherigo.

To meet this challenge, look to your caching statisitics and you will meet the challenge if you have found a minimum of 500 Traditionals, 200 Unknowns, 100 Multis, 40 Virtuals, 30 Earthcaches, 25 Letterbox Hybrids, and 10 Wherigos.

To enumerate your TUMVELW list, just take a screen shot photo of the "Cache Types You've Found" portion of your statistics. Send me a geocaching message of that screen shot and I will check your list. If it does NOT meet any of the TUMVELW requirement minimums, your cache log will be zapped.

So let's review. What do you need to complete this challenge Multi cache?

1) Found a minimum of 500 Traditionals, 200 Unknowns, 100 Multis, 40 Virtuals, 30 Earthcaches, 25 Letterbox Hybrids, and 10 Wherigos.
2) Find the final cache container and sign the logbook.

How to Calculate the Multi Final

At the posted coordinates you’ll find a sign. Take note of every word and letter that is written on the sign. Pictures do not count as words. And to be clear, there is NO PHYSICAL CONTAINER hidden at this location. There is only the sign to get your clues from.

Your eyesight and your knowledge of the alphabet will be scrutinized. There may be some new math thrown in.

Start by counting the number of times the 1st letter of the alphabet appears on the sign. Then do the same thing for the 5th letter of the alphabet. Not done yet repeat the process for the 9th letter of the alphabet. Do you have this figured out yet? Now, go back to the sign this time for the 15th letter of the alphabet. And now, try it again for the 21st letter of the alphabet. You’re almost there if you have been keeping track of these counts separately. Just tote them up. Just for the heck of it count the number of times the 19th letter appears.

Your goal is to figure out the coordinates N 28° 43.BBB W 081° 18.CCC.

The gathering of info is done. Now is the time for some math.

You should have 6 sets of numbers.

BBB =

The number of times the 1st letter of the alphabet appears multiplied by the number of times the 9th letter of the alphabet appears multiplied by the number of times the 19th letter of the alphabet appears multiplied by the number of times the 21st letter of the alphabet appears. Now, take that product, add 7150 to it, and divide it by 9. We’ll call the answer the RESULT.

To the RESULT, add the last two digits of the year that Will Smith, the Fresh Prince, was born. We will refer to this new result as RESULT TWO. RESULT TWO equals BBB.

CCC =

The number of times the 9th letter of the alphabet appears multiplied by the number of times the 15th letter of the alphabet appears multiplied by the square of the times the 1st letter of the alphabet appears. To this product add 4675 and it will be referred to as RESULT THREE. Now divide RESULT THREE by 6 and the answer is RESULT FOUR.

To the RESULT FOUR, add the last two digits of the year that Sidney Poitier, winner of Academy Award for the Lilies of the Field movie, was born and this new result will be referred to as RESULT FIVE. RESULT FIVE equals CCC.

Now, for those qualified cachers who think they can meet the challenge.....GO FOR IT!!!!!!

As with any cache, put it back just the way you found it. A pristine log plus lots of swag and some trackables will greet the FTF cacher. Due to the incessant whining of LS, I've changed the difficulty level on the cache.
