Au Moyen Âge, ce quartier de Metz était traversé par un bras de la Seille. En contrebas de la colline de Sainte Croix, il était également bien à l’écart de la cité.
Ces deux détails en faisaient un endroit parfait pour la tannerie, artisanat plutôt nauséabond et nécessitant de l’eau…
Les choses ont bien changé depuis, tant sur l’aspect que sur les odeurs, si ce n’est le terme de Tanneurs !
Aménagé en 1979 selon une inspiration méditerranéenne, le Jardin des Tanneurs est dirigé vers le sud-est, orientation propice à la pousse de plantes méridionales.
Prenez le temps de vous y promener pour le point de vue sur le Quartier Outre-Seille et pour la végétation inhabituelle dans nos contrées : palmiers, eucalyptus, lavandes, figuiers, arbres à kiwis…
