Geocache Description:

A memorial cache for Joe Bacon (bac49on)

1949-2013

We thought this secluded area, known as the Dyer Memorial Nature Reserve, was an appropriate location for a cache honouring our fellow cacher "bac49on". We ask everyone to please be mindful and respectful of their surroundings, but to also take time to fully enjoy the serenity and reverence of this unique site.

Joe was 63 years old when he passed away in Huntsville on January 29, 2013. He was a teacher at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School for his entire career and during that time he was a loved and well-respected track & field coach. He was also a gifted nature photographer, loved the outdoors and was an avid skier, kayaker, hiker, fisherman and, of course, a skilled geocacher. He found and logged a total of 1,861 caches and maintained 70 of his own hides. Joe was a member of the Muskoka Area Geocachers where he was affectionately known as “Cooper Lake”. By the way, Cooper was also the name of his canine companion.

Happy caching, Joe.

The stewardship of this area has been entrusted to the Muskoka Conservancy and you can learn more about this heritage trust foundation by clicking on their logo below...
