Welcome to the “South Trails”. Here you can hike several miles of themed nature trails and enjoy one of our prairies. The prairie here, off the parking lot is mature featuring a variety of prairie grasses and flowers. Did you know that prairie’s once covered 40 percent of the United States? Prairies are made primarily of grasses, sedges and flowering plants, with limited tree growth. Natural competition by prairie plants reduces the occurrence of weeds. Fire is also important to the development and maintenance of a prairie; it prevents invading trees and shrubs from turning the prairie into woodland.
