Victoria Park was originally the home of a St Helens solicitor, John Ansdell, who built the Mansion House in the middle of the 19th Century. The estate passed to St Helens Council in 1886 and was named Victoria Park the following year. It is at present (2013) the subject of an extensive refurbishment costing over four million pounds including the restoration of the Orangery and other features in the Mansion House (which has a useful Bistro bar) and in the park the pond and follies. There is a children's play area and other amenities are being added.
There have over time been several Geocaches in the Park, the most recent being wiped out by the work on the pond.
As well as the official car park (often full while work is going on) there is ample parking in Bishop Road along the North of the Park and close to the cache
