Geocache Description:

♪♫ Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other's gold. ♫♪

Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois Brownies and Juniors learned about letterboxing and geocaching will at Morrison Rockwood Days at Camp in June 2013. They found an authentic letterbox and geocache already hidden on camp property and then made one of their own to hide. Placement was determined by the day campers.

In true geocaching fashion, you have the coordinates of where to find the container. In true letterboxing fashion, here are some directions you could  choose to follow:

This hybrid is in Morrison Rockwood State Park. Enter the park and follow the signs to the restaraunt. Across the parking lot, you'll see a boat launch and flag pole. Go past these and the memorial benches until you see a trail entering the woods. Go twenty one paces (two steps=1 pace) along this path until a smaller path appears on your right. Follow this smaller path until it lets you out onto a widish grassy path. Go right along the edge of the water until you go up an incline to a tree with a very distinctive root base. There's lots of good nooks and crannies in that root base, but no one quite right for placing a letterbox.. This tree is just a decoy. (These directions actually lead you to the real letterbox hidden in the park but also lead you very close to the location of our hybrid.)

There is more than one way to approach this cache, but please be mindful of the fishermen who like these quiet hidden paths to put out their lines. We don't want to disturb our fellow outdoorsmen!

As per the DNR, please note the following:

1. Geocache is placed on Department managed property with permission.
2. Do not place the following items in the Geocache: Food items, inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials.
3. It is the visitors responsibility or orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to this Department managed site.

You will need your own ink pad if you want to use the included stamp or leave your own.
