Marvel's first family bounced on to the scene in November of 1961, created by Jack "King" Kirby and Stan Lee, and helped launch a new wave of success for the publisher, along with one of the most famous superhero teams in comics. Ever since their original 1961 introduction, the Fantastic Four have been portrayed as a somewhat dysfunctional, yet loving, family. Breaking convention with other comic book archetypes of the time, they would squabble and hold grudges both deep and petty, and eschewed anonymity or secret identities in favor of celebrity status.
Susan "Sue" Storm Richards, also known as Invisible Girl, (and later Invisible Woman) is the first female superhero created by Marvel in the Silver Age of Comics. Like the other founding members of the Fantastic Four, Sue received her powers after being exposed to a cosmic storm. Her primary power deals with light waves, allowing her to render herself and others invisible. However, she can also project powerful fields of invisible psionic energy which she uses for a variety of offensive and defensive effects. Sue plays a central role in the lives of her brother Johnny Storm, her husband Reed Richards, her children Franklin and Valeria Richards, and her close friend Ben Grimm.
