Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
All the caches in this series are small being made from old pop bottle tops or nano containers; you should bring your own pen/pencil plus something to winkle the logs out of the nanos, this cache is magnetic so please do not disturb the bickwork. The area is very popular so please be vigilant and replace each cache as you found it so that the next cacher can enjoy the experience as you have.
This series of caches has been placed with the kind permission of the National Trust Management team at Tredegar House.
Tredegar House is one of the architectural wonders of Wales and one of the most significant late 17th-century houses in the whole of the British Isles.
The series of caches are situated in the setting of the beautiful 90 acres of parkland.
The house is of great importance to Wales, not only because of its historic interest and architectural merit but also because many similar properties have been lost in the last 100 years.
The cache series will take you through approximately 2.5 Km (1.6 miles) of National Trust Country Park and you may wish to visit this grand and beautiful 17th-century mansion, whose rooms and walls reverberate with fascinating stories about the Morgan family, later Lords Tredegar. One distant relative of the Morgan family was Captain Henry Morgan, a Welsh privateer who preyed on the Spanish fleet and colonies. He was feted by King Charles II and then went on to become Governor in Jamaica; a well known rum is named after him, hence the cache series name.
The National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House, its gardens and parkland from Newport City Council in March 2012. There is free access to the grounds from dawn to dusk. The park closing times are displayed at both entrance gates. We advise you look at these times before starting out
Unfortunately you cannot park in the grounds but there is all day parking in the National Trust car park for £2 per day. National trust members park for free.
We have tried to cater for most abilities with easy to find and difficult caches, some being designed to test even the most experienced cacher; so be safe and enjoy. This is a child and dog friendly park with plenty of waste bins so please make sure that your loved ones are supervised at all times and that you pick up/dispose of your waste responsibly.
The perimeter path and cache areas are mainly wheelchair/pushchair friendly but wheelchair users may need assistance at the actual cache sites due to undergrowth and the placement of some caches. Please note that if you do not sign the logbook then your “Found It” log may be removed.
Why not try "Wales' First Ethercache - GC2MBFD" while you are here?
Congratulations 'steview100' for *****FTF*****
The Tredegar House caches are managed by a volunteer who attends the gardens on a Tuesday, all logs are read and any action / repairs can be managed on a weekly basis.
Please make life easier by replacing caches where you find them and reporting all visits, we especially like to hear about what else you have been doing at Tredegar House, Gardens and Parkland.
