Geocache Description:


[ENG] Tõrvaaugu (Tar pit) recreation site has got its name from the authentic tar-burning pit beside the shelter. Tar is still made here at least once a year in September, when the Forest and Hiking Day takes place in Rassi village. The recreation site is one of the attractions on Vanapagana study trail. Due to its roadside location it is also a nice stop for car travellers. Visitors interested in cultural heritage can read about tar burning on the information board.

[EST]  Aare juhatab teid RMK Tõrvaaugu puhkekoha juurde. See paik on ühtlasi ka üheks punktiks "Vanapagana matkarajale". Kes soovib võib selle läbida. Vaatamist ja uurimist seal jagub.

Tõrv on tuntuim puidukaitse vahend. Igal aastal tõrvati üle rautamata vankrirattad ja reejalased. Paadid ja laevad. Rannikul tuli tõrvata ka kalavõrgud ja köied, saartel riidest pättide tallad. Searasvaga segatud tõrva kasutati ratta ja saapamäärdeks. Tõrv oli hinnatud ravim. Seda määriti peale nahahaiguste ja -hädade ning isegi hambavalu puhul.
