This Geocache has been placed so Boy Scouts can complete requirement #7 of the Geochaching Merit Badge. It is being placed at its current location so non-scouts can locate it also but it is still on camp property so the scouts don’t have to leave camp to find it. The Camp Director and Camp Ranger have approved its location.
A little bit about the camp-
Located in the midst of the scenic Finger Lakes region of western New York State, Camp Babcock-Hovey sits on the east shore of Seneca Lake and spans 350 acres of woodlands and fields. This site serves as a gateway to summer camp Scouting adventure. Over 1,000 youth enjoy summer camping at Camp Babcock-Hovey every summer. In 1937 Harry Hovey and Birton Babcock purchased and donated the land that makes up the present day site of Camp Babcock-Hovey. Two years later, after construction of the initial camp facilities, the camp was formally dedicated and opened. It has been running continuously ever since. From September through June each year, the camp facilities are available to rent to outside groups. The Eagle Lodge is a great lodge for large gatherings. Pedersen Lodge and the Winter Cabins are a little bit more rustic if that is your style. Outdoor camping runs year round.
