When traveling in the Cape-Namibia Route, a break on this long, boring road before you reach the Namibian / South African border.
The cache is an waterproof plastic container, the size of a soft drink can. It is able to contain a trackable, and has an pencil, pencil-sharpner, logbook in it. There are a view trinkets to swap :-)
A beautiful, always green mountainous area before you reach the emptyness of the last 200kms to the border.
The ringwood tree (Maerua schinzii) The common name "ringwood" comes from the markings on the tree, that look like the tree has "ringworm".
It is often mistaken with the shepherds tree, mainly because it also has a whitish trunk.
However, the leaves are usually larger, fleshier and yellowish green. The tree is very eye-catching when in full bloom, the conspicuous flowers have clusters of light yellow stamens that exude a pleasant, sweet smell that attract bees and other insects.
Seeds are contained in a long beanlike pod and the seeds and leaves are eaten by many animals, whilst birds and rodents are partial to the seeds. As it is an important shade tree, the ringwood is a protected species in Namibia. The Ringwood tree often used to make the spokes of wagon wheels due to it's flexability. The tree is the guardian of the cache and if lucky you might even see a kudu or a hyrax.
