This area have a lovely outlook, maybe spend some time while you sign the log watching what you can see in the waterway.

From the 1870 s until 1967, shingle was extracted from Jones bay and the Mangatawhiri Stream mouth.
Most of the shingle was barged to Auckland. IN the late 50 s some of it was used to construct the piles for the Auckland Harbour Bridge. A deep water lagoon was formed by the quarrying, and this now forms useful habitat for a range of bird species.
Some bird species are resident here, while others visit seasonally to feed and roost.
