Every city and most towns have courthouses - some active, some 'mothballed' - these buildings are sometimes fascinating architectural masterpieces. Others are hideous eyesores, but interesting all the same... This series aims to celebrate the UK Justice System, which ticks away in the background to stop us all descending into anarchy.
Oxford
The Oxford Crown and County Court building was the Morris Garage Car Showroom in a previous life (can you tell from the shape?)
Dealing with the more serious criminal cases and all the civil cases from all over Oxfordshire, it is another busy court, with up to 6 judges sitting at any one time. My favourite case from history occurred in 1840 where a man named William Campion, aged 24, was convicted of "maliciously and feloniously cutting and wounding with a scythe" a fellow farm worker who insulted his mowing skills. Although the surgeon said the cut to his victim's leg was so bad it was improbable it would ever regain its perfect use, the two still appeared to be working in the fields together the following year, according to the census. All's well that ends well?

Although there aren't quite as many courts as there are churches, inspiration is taken from sadexploration's epic church micro series. Please feel welcome to add your local court to the series, just let jammy&badger know so we can keep track of them all. The only rule is the physical element of the cache must either be in view of the court, or, if offset, not more than five minutes walk away from the court building.
