If you are headed to the beach you are on the right path with this geocache because it's between the parking lot and the beach.
Just a few feet east of here you can view Nags Head's recently completed, $37 million beach nourishment project. More than 4.6 million cubic yards of sand were added to the town's ocean front shoreline widening it an average of 75 feet from Mile Post 11 south to Mile Post 21.
The Nags Head restoration project has won several engineering awards and was designed to replace at least 10 years worth of sand loss while adding to its recreational area and provide additional storm protection. It is the largest, locally-funded, beach nourishment project accomplished to date in the United States.
Parking available within a few yards of the hiding place, depending on how many other people want to be at the beach, and you can look for the cache container as you head toward the ocean. Cache can in fact can be reached from the boardwalk by most people, although some may find hunting easier from within the cactus patches located along side the boardwalk. Just remember to watch where you step. The container you seek is taller than a 35mm film canister but a bit more narrow.
