Geocache Description:

This is at the War Memorial Museum close to the steam locomotive. Enter by the main gate of the museum and followed the street around to this site. Or park in the business next door since this is a Sunday.

The log book will be available between 2:00 and 3:00 PM for signing.
Feel free to sign and move on.

In front of you is the C&O Railway K-4 Kanawaha #2756, an example of Lima Super Power, representing the most advanced modern steam type in the country. Mainly used for freight, it was also fast enough for passenger service. The C&O gave the 2756 to the city of Newport News as a gift. It was moved to this site over temporary track on Sunday, 25 August, 1963 and has remained here since. Unfortunately the city's attempt to allow people to see the cab and get close resulted in some extensive vandalism. A first cousin of this locomotive, PM #1225, was the model for the locomotive in the movie The Polar Express.
