Therese Bertheau retired from her teaching position at Nissens Pigeskole in Oslo in 1919, and moved to a house in Seimbakken in Drøbak. She had bought this house some years earlier together with her sister Elisabeth and two other women. Probably her fascination for Drøbak started when visiting Johan Carl Keyser who had a house in "Torkildsbyen". Keyser was one of the directors at Nissens Pigeskole, and the female teachers used to visit his home every summer.
Therese Bertheau and her sister lived a quiet life in Drøbak. They strolled in the streets every day, and Therese also taught private lessons in English, French and German. She was very fond of the place, and in 1932 she wrote Drøbak-sangen (the Drøbak-song) as a tribute to the small town. Her last sentence in the song is "blir du dog det beste på jorden" (you remain the best on earth). Therese Bertheau died in 1936.
