Geocache Description:

This cache can be found near the summit (317m) of Brougher Mountain, just outside the perimeter of the transmitting station.

Brougher Mountain transmitting station is one of the three main transmitters in Northern Ireland for TV and Radio and is located 317 metres above sea level on the border between Fermanagh and Tyrone.

Brougher's feed comes from Divis via a fibre network and serves four other transmitter sites at Ederney, Derrygonnelly, Belcoo and Lisbellaw.

Brougher's digital switchover from analogue to Digital occurred on 10th October 2012 (same as other NI transmitters), and completed the UK's digital switchover.

It is possible to drive right the way up to the transmitter site, but if you fancy a walk (just under one mile), the entire lane to the transmitter site is paved and smooth, although steep in places. If driving please take note of the signs requesting a 5mph speed limit where you pass close to houses low down on the ascent. There is a gate on the way up that is generally shut (with a sign requesting it should remain this way) so please close this as you pass through on the way up and down as livestock are often present.

The view from the top is well worth the trip up and on a clear day shows Lower Lough Erne widening into the horizon. There is a triangulation point close to the cache site which you may want to visit while you are up here.

When at the transmitter site, take an anti-clockwise route around the perimeter to GZ for the best views over Lower Lough Erne and surrounding countryside.

For those unfamiliar with the area, or with any issues finding the way to the co-ordinates, the access road to the site is best reached from the village of Kilskeery. Heading out of the village (towards Trillick) take the first road on the right. This is the Fingerpost road. Follow this for 1.6 miles till you reach the Fingerpost. Take the sharp left turn here onto the Rosnareen road. Follow this for 2.6 miles and the access lane is on the right, currently signposted with an Arqiva Brougher Mountain Transmitter site sign.

Pay close attention when you find the cache, as this is the forth in a series of caches containing clues to the location of an additional mystery cache (Bottom of the Bottle - GC4KNE2). If you complete all of the caches in the series, you will be able to figure out where it is hidden, so note down the information you can gather from this cache, and keep it safe for use later.
