The art of LCB Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

MtnPriest: The hide area is not suitable any more, and the area is getting pretty saturated. Since this one's not too popular, I'm OK to let it go... Thanks to the finders!

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. You must visit the building there to solve the puzzle.

I much enjoyed himilecyclist's cache Wasatch Alexandria. The building I spend most of my time in on campus has a lot of interesting art. It is located at the posted coordinates. Take a look, enjoy it, and answer these questions to find the cache. Sorry, but the final is a bison tube.

Note that all but one of the answers can basically be found in the building. If you don't know the Messier catalog by heart, and don't have a smartphone, I'd bring that information with you. The final is so close, it would be a shame to have to come back.

  1. (Level 1, north end) In a poem, a certain number "seems just so many zeroes". How many zeroes does it have? That number is A.
  2. (Level 1, center) One of the pictures here is a typical illustration associated with:
    1. Einstein's special theory of relativity (B=1)
    2. Einstein's general theory of relativity (B=2)
    3. Bohr's interpretation of quantum mechanics (B=3)
    4. Flushing bowling balls down toilets (B=4)
  3. (Level 3, north end) Here there are a couple of pictures of galaxies. One is on Messier's observing list. C is its Messier number.
  4. (Level 3, center) Divide the date that this atlas was published by 100 and ignore the remainder to get D.
  5. (Level 2, center) E is the number of "adenines" in the picture of DNA here.
  6. (Level 2, south) Namad refers to:
    1. A spear used for fishing (F=0)
    2. A spear used for hunting mammals (F=5)
    3. The felt used to cover a yurt (F=10)
    4. A type of waterproof footwear (F=15)
The cache is located at N 40 (45+X)', W 111 (51+Y)', where X=[15*(A+C+E)+(B*F)]/1000 and Y=D/1000. It is a short walk from the building.
